Overview
Cymbopogon martinii + Thymus vulgaris essential oils is a combination of two essential oils, Palmarosa and Thyme, being investigated by the University of Belgrade as an adjuvant antimicrobial treatment for chronic periapical periodontitis in young permanent teeth. The essential oils, produced by Herba d.o.o. in Belgrade, are utilized as root canal irrigants following mechanical-chemical preparation. Their mechanism of action involves broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, primarily through the disruption of microbial cell membranes and inhibition of biofilm formation by endodontic pathogens such as *Enterococcus faecalis*. This treatment aims to enhance the disinfection of the root canal system compared to standard sodium hypochlorite irrigation alone, particularly in the complex root canal anatomy of young permanent teeth.
