Cléo-35 is a combination pharmaceutical product developed by Altius Healthcare Group, containing the anti-androgen cyproterone acetate and the synthetic estrogen ethinyl estradiol. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of severe acne associated with androgenization (such as seborrhea or hirsutism) in women who have not responded to other treatments. Cyproterone acetate works by competitively inhibiting androgen receptors and reducing the synthesis of androgens, while ethinyl estradiol increases the levels of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), thereby reducing the concentration of free, biologically active androgens in the blood. Although it functions as an oral contraceptive, it is specifically indicated for androgen-dependent conditions and should not be used solely for birth control.
