Overview

Cyestra is a combination pharmaceutical product containing cyproterone acetate and ethinylestradiol, developed and manufactured by Swiss Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd. Cyproterone acetate is a synthetic progestogen with potent anti-androgenic properties, while ethinylestradiol is a synthetic estrogen. This combination is primarily indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe androgen-dependent diseases in women, including acne (with or without seborrhea), hirsutism, and androgenetic alopecia. Additionally, it serves as an effective oral contraceptive by inhibiting ovulation and altering cervical mucus. The anti-androgenic component works by competitively inhibiting the binding of dihydrotestosterone to its receptors and reducing the concentration of circulating androgens through the suppression of luteinizing hormone.
