Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Cysteine + methionine is a combination of two sulfur-containing amino acids. Cysteine is a non-essential amino acid with antioxidant properties, involved in the synthesis of glutathione and other metabolic processes. Methionine is an essential amino acid required for protein synthesis and serves as a methyl group donor in various biochemical reactions. The combination may be used as a dietary supplement or investigated for its protective effects against toxicity (e.g., from drugs like furazolidone) or oxidative stress. In experimental models, combined administration has shown potential to prevent endocrine disturbances and genotoxicity induced by certain toxins[1]. Both are also important in nutrition, especially when dietary intake or metabolic demand increases[5][6].
