Cytokine-primed Wharton's jelly mesenchymal stem cells (hWJMSCs) are an experimental cell therapy product derived from the umbilical cord matrix. These cells are pre-activated (primed) for 24 hours with pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), at concentrations of 25 ng/ml. This priming process is designed to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the MSCs by modulating their proteomic signature, leading to increased expression of cell adhesion molecules (ICAM-1, VCAM-1, NCAM) and immunomodulatory proteins such as guanylate-binding proteins. In the context of pancreatic cancer, these primed cells are investigated for their ability to induce tumor apoptosis and reshape the inflammatory microenvironment through the modulation of NOD-like receptor signaling and complement cascades. The therapy aims to provide a potent immunomodulatory strategy that maintains regenerative capabilities while effectively combating tumor progression.
