Drug intelligence / Profile preview
CMV immunoglobulin (cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin) is a human plasma-derived hyperimmune globulin containing high titers of neutralizing IgG antibodies directed against cytomegalovirus (CMV) envelope glycoproteins, such as glycoprotein B (gB) and the gH/gL/UL128/UL130/UL131 pentameric complex. It is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of cytomegalovirus disease in solid organ transplant recipients (including kidney, lung, liver, pancreas, and heart transplants) who are at high risk of infection, often administered in combination with antiviral agents like ganciclovir. CMV immunoglobulin provides passive immunity by neutralizing extracellular viral particles, preventing viral entry into host cells, and promoting opsonization and phagocytosis. It is marketed under brand names such as CytoGam (originally developed by MassBiologics and currently manufactured by Kamada) and Cytotect/Megalotect (developed and manufactured by Biotest).
