Overview

This drug is a multi-virus-specific T-cell (VST) therapy, specifically an adoptive cellular immunotherapy composed of T lymphocytes (primarily CD8+ cytotoxic T cells and CD4+ helper T cells) that have been activated and expanded *ex vivo* to recognize specific antigens from four common opportunistic viruses: Cytomegalovirus (CMV), Adenovirus (AdV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and BK virus (BKV). Developed primarily to treat or prevent viral infections in immunocompromised patients, such as those undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), these CTLs function by recognizing viral peptides presented by Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecules on the surface of infected host cells. Upon recognition, the CTLs undergo further expansion and exert direct cytotoxic effects via the release of perforins and granzymes, as well as the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines like interferon-gamma, thereby controlling viral replication. The therapy is typically manufactured as an "off-the-shelf" allogeneic product from healthy donors with specific HLA types to ensure rapid availability for patients with life-threatening infections.
