Overview
d-chiro-inositol + metformin is a combination of two agents used primarily for the management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and insulin resistance. Metformin is a biguanide oral antihyperglycemic agent that improves insulin sensitivity by decreasing hepatic glucose production and increasing peripheral glucose uptake. D-chiro-inositol is an inositol isomer that acts as an insulin sensitizer, improving cellular response to insulin and modulating ovarian function. The combination targets both metabolic and reproductive aspects of PCOS, with evidence suggesting improved menstrual regularity, reduction in androgen levels, better ovulation rates, improved lipid profiles, and enhanced glycemic control compared to monotherapy with either agent alone[1][2][3]. This combination may also be considered for adjunctive use in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to improve glycemic parameters[6].
