Overview

D-cycloserine + glycine is a combination of two small molecules that modulate the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, specifically at the glycine modulatory site. D-cycloserine acts as a partial agonist at this site, while glycine is a full agonist. Both compounds influence NMDA receptor function, which plays a key role in synaptic plasticity and neurotransmission in the central nervous system. This combination has been investigated for its potential to enhance NMDA receptor-mediated neurotransmission and has been studied primarily in neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, where modulation of glutamatergic signaling may improve negative symptoms[1][2][3]. D-cycloserine is also an established antibiotic used for tuberculosis but at much higher doses than those used for neuropsychiatric indications[5].
