Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PT007 (also identified by the clinical study code D81P007) is an inhaled formulation of albuterol sulfate developed by AstraZeneca using its proprietary Aerosphere delivery technology. Albuterol sulfate is a short-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist (SABA) that serves as a bronchodilator for the rapid relief of asthma symptoms. The Aerosphere technology utilizes a co-suspension of drug crystals with porous, low-density phospholipid microparticles in a pressurized metered-dose inhaler (pMDI). This formulation is designed to improve the stability and uniformity of the suspension, ensuring consistent dose delivery and enhancing drug deposition in both the large and small airways. PT007 has been evaluated in Phase II clinical trials for the treatment of asthma, comparing its efficacy and safety to conventional albuterol inhalers like Ventolin.
