Overview

DA-020 + hyperforin is a topical combination therapy developed by Applied Biology, Inc. for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced alopecia (CIA). The formulation consists of DA-020, which is a topical solution of the alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist oxymetazoline, and 1.5% hyperforin, a prenylated phloroglucinol derivative found in St. John's Wort. Oxymetazoline acts as a potent vasoconstrictor; when applied to the scalp, it is intended to temporarily reduce local blood flow, thereby decreasing the delivery of systemic cytotoxic chemotherapy agents to the hair follicles. Hyperforin is included for its potential follicular protective effects, possibly mediated through its activity as a TRPC6 channel agonist or its anti-inflammatory properties, which may help maintain hair follicle integrity during chemotherapy treatment.
