DAB + camptothecin refers to an experimental nanoparticle-based co-delivery system designed for the treatment of prostate cancer. It utilizes a generation-3 diaminobutyric polypropylenimine (DAB) dendrimer that has been PEGylated to improve biocompatibility and loaded with the chemotherapeutic agent camptothecin. This complex is further combined with plasmid DNA to form "dendriplexes," facilitating a dual-modality approach that integrates chemotherapy with gene therapy. Camptothecin functions as a DNA topoisomerase I inhibitor, inducing apoptosis in cancer cells, while the DAB dendrimer serves as a cationic vector for the delivery and expression of therapeutic genes. Research into this system has explored the use of microfluidic processing to optimize its physicochemical properties, such as particle size and zeta potential, to enhance cellular uptake and transfection efficiency in prostate cancer cell lines like PC3 and DU145.
