Overview

**dabigatran + atorvastatin** is a combination of two orally administered small-molecule drugs: dabigatran etexilate, a direct thrombin inhibitor anticoagulant, and atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). Dabigatran etexilate is used primarily for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic events such as stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation, while atorvastatin is used to lower cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk. There are no fixed-dose combinations marketed; concomitant use means both drugs are prescribed independently. Clinical studies show limited pharmacokinetic interactions—plasma atorvastatin slightly increases, and dabigatran exposure decreases modestly with co-administration, but these effects are not considered clinically significant in healthy volunteers. Both drugs act via distinct mechanisms: dabigatran inhibits thrombin, reducing blood clot formation, and atorvastatin inhibits hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis via HMG-CoA reductase inhibition[1].
