Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two drugs: **Dabigatran etexilate mesylate** (code name BIBR 1048 MS) is an orally administered prodrug that is converted in vivo to dabigatran, a direct thrombin (Factor IIa) inhibitor. It is used primarily as an oral anticoagulant for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, as well as for the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism. Dabigatran inhibits the final step of the coagulation cascade, blocking thrombin-induced conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin[1][3][5][7]. **Ranitidine** is a histamine H2 receptor antagonist that reduces gastric acid secretion by competitively inhibiting histamine binding at H2 receptors of the gastric parietal cells. Ranitidine is used to treat and prevent ulcers in the stomach and intestines, as well as conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome[2][4][6][8]. The combination is investigational and does not correspond to a marketed fixed-dose product but may be used in research to study pharmacological interactions, drug absorption, or specific patient management situations.
