Dalcetrapib (JTT-705) is a small molecule cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) inhibitor developed to increase high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and potentially reduce cardiovascular risk. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor ("statin") used to lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides, and overall cardiovascular risk. The combination of dalcetrapib and simvastatin has been studied for the treatment of dyslipidemia, particularly in patients with low HDL-C levels. Dalcetrapib works by inhibiting CETP activity, thereby increasing HDL-C levels; simvastatin reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase[1][2][3][4]. Dalcetrapib was originally developed by Japan Tobacco and Roche[3].
