dalteparin + sunitinib

Dalteparin + sunitinib is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC). Dalteparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) that acts as an anticoagulant by binding to antithrombin III and inhibiting Factor Xa. Sunitinib is an oral, multi-targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets several receptor tyrosine kinases, including vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFRs) and platelet-derived growth factor receptors (PDGFRs). The combination was studied by the Roswell Park Cancer Institute based on the hypothesis that inhibiting both angiogenesis and the coagulation cascade—both of which are often upregulated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma—could provide synergistic anti-tumor effects and prevent thromboembolic complications common in cancer patients.
