Overview
A four-drug antiviral combination regimen composed of **danoprevir**, **ritonavir**, **peginterferon alfa-2a**, and **ribavirin**. Danoprevir is a potent NS3/4A protease inhibitor targeting hepatitis C virus (HCV); ritonavir is used here as a pharmacokinetic booster (inhibiting CYP3A4-mediated metabolism to increase danoprevir exposure); peginterferon alfa-2a is a pegylated interferon that stimulates an antiviral immune response; and ribavirin is a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity. This combination is developed as a treatment for chronic hepatitis C, leveraging direct-acting antiviral (DAA) activity (danoprevir), immune modulation (peginterferon alfa-2a), and broad antiviral support (ribavirin). This specific four-drug combination expands on the standard of care of peginterferon and ribavirin by adding a DAA and a booster to improve cure rates especially in harder-to-treat populations.
