Overview
Dapagliflozin + saxagliptin is a fixed-dose oral combination medication used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor that works by preventing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, thereby lowering blood sugar levels. Saxagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin levels, prolonging the action of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which stimulates insulin release and decreases hepatic glucose production. The combination targets two complementary mechanisms for improved glycemic control. It is not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis[1][2][8].
