Overview

Dapagliflozin + valsartan is a **combination of two small molecule pharmaceutical drugs**: dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and valsartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). Dapagliflozin inhibits SGLT2 in the proximal renal tubules, leading to reduced reabsorption of filtered glucose and a decrease in blood glucose levels, and provides additional cardiorenal benefits. Valsartan selectively blocks the angiotensin II type 1 receptor, reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated effects, which lowers blood pressure and protects cardiac and renal function. The combination aims to leverage the **antihypertensive, antidiabetic, and cardioprotective effects** of both agents. While there are clinical studies examining combinations of dapagliflozin with ARBs (and with sacubitril/valsartan, specifically), dapagliflozin + valsartan as a discrete fixed-dose combination product does not appear to be a widely approved or branded entity; its use is typically in co-prescription settings for heart failure, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.
