Darbepoetin alfa + iron sucrose is a combination therapy used primarily to treat anemia, especially in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis or those with refractory anemia due to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease or after hematopoietic cell transplantation. Darbepoetin alfa is a recombinant human erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) that stimulates the bone marrow to increase red blood cell production by acting as an agonist at the erythropoietin receptor. Iron sucrose is an intravenous iron preparation that replenishes body iron stores, supporting effective erythropoiesis and improving hemoglobin response when used alongside ESAs. The combination has been shown to improve hemoglobin levels more effectively than either agent alone, reduce ESA dose requirements, and hasten erythroid recovery in various clinical settings[1][2][3][4].
