darunavir + danoprevir

**Darunavir + danoprevir** is a combination of two small molecule antiretroviral drugs: darunavir, a nonpeptidic HIV-1 protease inhibitor, and danoprevir, an HCV NS3/4A protease inhibitor. Darunavir blocks HIV replication by binding to and inhibiting the viral protease required for maturation of infectious particles. Danoprevir inhibits the hepatitis C virus NS3/4A protease, impeding viral polyprotein cleavage necessary for HCV replication. Both drugs act as competitive antagonists of their respective viral proteases, preventing viral replication and maturation. While darunavir is approved for treatment of HIV infection, danoprevir is indicated for hepatitis C virus infection. This combination is studied in a clinical context, possibly as a multi-antiviral regimen, notably in research involving drug-drug interactions or potential effects in co-infected patients.[5][2]
