Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral regimen containing four active ingredients: darunavir, ritonavir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate. It is used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection. Darunavir is an HIV-1 protease inhibitor that prevents viral replication by inhibiting the cleavage of viral polyproteins. Ritonavir acts as a pharmacokinetic enhancer by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A (CYP3A)-mediated metabolism, thereby increasing plasma concentrations of darunavir. Emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate are nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase, blocking viral DNA synthesis and replication[4][6]. This combination provides a potent antiretroviral effect and is typically used as part of first-line therapy for HIV-1 infection.
