This combination is a triple regimen of the direct-acting antiviral **dasabuvir** (a non-nucleoside inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS5B RNA-dependent RNA polymerase), **pegylated interferon** (a pegylated form of interferon-alpha, an immunomodulatory cytokine with antiviral effects), and **ribavirin** (a guanosine analogue with broad-spectrum antiviral activity, though its exact mechanism in HCV remains unclear). The combination was investigated for treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection, particularly before the era of interferon-free therapies. Dasabuvir inhibits HCV replication by targeting the viral polymerase, pegylated interferon enhances the immune response against HCV-infected cells, and ribavirin augments antiviral efficacy. This combination improves sustained virologic response rates over pegylated interferon and ribavirin alone, but is now largely superseded by all-oral direct-acting antiviral regimens[1][3].
