This combination therapy consists of dasatinib, a second-generation BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), and ropeginterferon alfa-2b, a long-acting monopegylated recombinant interferon alpha-2b. Dasatinib works by inhibiting the BCR-ABL protein and SRC family kinases, which are drivers of leukemic cell proliferation in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). Ropeginterferon alfa-2b acts as an agonist at the interferon alpha receptor (IFNAR), inducing immunomodulatory effects and direct anti-proliferative activity against malignant clones. The combination is being investigated by M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Phase II clinical trials for patients with newly diagnosed CML in chronic phase (CML-CP) to evaluate if the addition of interferon can deepen molecular responses and improve the rates of treatment-free remission compared to TKI monotherapy.
