Overview

This is an investigational autologous dendritic cell vaccine developed by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) for the treatment of melanoma. The vaccine is produced by harvesting a patient's own dendritic cells and pulsing them with melanoma-associated antigens, specifically targeting HLA-A*0201 positive patients in clinical trials. These mature, antigen-loaded dendritic cells are administered subcutaneously to function as professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Their primary mechanism of action is to present tumor-specific antigens to T-lymphocytes, thereby activating a targeted cytotoxic immune response against melanoma cells. The clinical protocol often incorporates Keyhole Limpet Hemocyanin (KLH) as an immunological tracer or adjuvant to monitor the patient's immune competency and response to the vaccination process.
