Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Butantan-DV is a live attenuated tetravalent vaccine developed by the Butantan Institute in collaboration with the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). It is designed to prevent dengue fever caused by all four serotypes of the dengue virus (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3, and DENV-4). The vaccine consists of four specific attenuated strains: rDEN1Δ30, rDEN2/4Δ30(ME), rDEN3Δ30/31, and rDEN4Δ30. It is administered as a single subcutaneous dose and has demonstrated efficacy in Phase 3 clinical trials across a broad age range (2–59 years), regardless of prior dengue exposure. The vaccine stimulates a broad neutralizing antibody immune response and is currently being evaluated in Phase 4 trials for specific populations, such as those with autoimmune rheumatic diseases.
