A live-attenuated vaccine candidate specifically targeting the dengue virus serotype 2 (DENV-2). Developed by researchers at Umeå University and Region Västerbotten, this candidate often utilizes the rDEN2Δ30-7164 strain originally engineered by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The vaccine features a 30-nucleotide deletion in the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of the viral genome, which significantly attenuates the virus while maintaining its ability to replicate sufficiently to induce a robust immune response. It is designed to elicit both neutralizing antibodies and cellular immunity against DENV-2, a serotype frequently associated with severe clinical manifestations such as dengue hemorrhagic fever. Clinical evaluation has primarily focused on assessing safety and immunogenicity in healthy, flavivirus-naive adult populations.
