deramiocel (JRM-001) is an autologous cardiac stem cell therapy developed by Metcela, following its acquisition of Japan Regenerative Medicine. The therapy involves the isolation of cardiac progenitor cells (cardiosphere-derived cells) from a patient's own heart tissue, which are then expanded in a laboratory and re-administered via intracoronary injection. deramiocel is primarily investigated for the treatment of pediatric congenital heart diseases, specifically functional single ventricle (such as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome), and pediatric dilated cardiomyopathy. The mechanism of action is attributed to the cells' ability to secrete paracrine factors that stimulate myocardial regeneration, enhance angiogenesis, and reduce fibrotic tissue, thereby improving overall cardiac function and hemodynamics.
