Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus + dermatophagoides farinae is a standardized **allergen extract combination** comprising equal parts extracts from the European house dust mite and the American house dust mite, marketed by Jubilant HollisterStier as **Standardized Mite Mix**. It is an FDA-licensed biologic allergenic product used both as a **diagnostic skin-test reagent** for patients with a clinical history suggestive of dust mite allergy and as **allergen immunotherapy** to mitigate mite-induced allergic asthma, allergic rhinitis, and allergic conjunctivitis in sensitized patients. Mechanistically, it delivers relevant dust-mite allergen proteins that bind allergen-specific IgE on mast cells and basophils for diagnostic reactivity, while repeated therapeutic administration is intended to induce immune tolerance and modulate the pathogenic IgE-mediated allergic response, although the full immunologic mechanism of allergen immunotherapy is not completely defined. The product is administered via percutaneous, intradermal, or subcutaneous routes depending on use and is marketed under FDA BLAs 103870 and 103871.
