Drug intelligence / Profile preview
des-His1,Pro4,Glu9-glucagon is a peptide-based glucagon receptor (GCGR) antagonist developed by researchers at the University of Ulster. It is a structurally modified analogue of native glucagon, designed to block glucagon-mediated signaling. In preclinical models of diabetes (such as streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice and high-fat-fed mice), chronic administration of des-His1,Pro4,Glu9-glucagon has been shown to delay the onset of hyperglycemia, improve oral glucose tolerance, enhance insulin sensitivity, and suppress hyperglucagonemia. It is primarily used as a research tool to study the therapeutic potential of glucagon receptor antagonism in diabetes and obesity.
