Overview

Desloratadine + pseudoephedrine is a fixed-dose combination medication used primarily for the symptomatic treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) when accompanied by nasal congestion. Desloratadine is a second-generation antihistamine that works by selectively antagonizing peripheral histamine H1 receptor, thereby reducing symptoms such as sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes. Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic decongestant that acts as an agonist at adrenergic receptor (alpha) to cause vasoconstriction in the nasal mucosa, leading to reduced swelling and congestion. The combination provides both antihistaminic and decongestant effects for comprehensive allergy symptom relief[1][2][3][4][5][8]. It is available in extended-release oral tablet formulations. Developed by Schering-Plough and manufactured by Merck & Co.
