Overview
Desolon is a low-dose, monophasic, third-generation combined oral contraceptive (COC) tablet manufactured by Renata PLC. It is a fixed-dose combination of the synthetic progestin desogestrel (150 mcg) and the synthetic estrogen ethinylestradiol (30 mcg). Desolon is primarily indicated for the prevention of pregnancy, and is also utilized for the treatment of acne and failure of ovarian development. It works by suppressing the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis to inhibit ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to prevent sperm penetration, and altering the endometrium to prevent implantation. Desolon was evaluated in a Phase 4 community-based controlled trial in Bangladesh sponsored by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
