dexamethasone + ascorbic acid + beta-sodium glycerophosphate (DAG) is a topical combination therapy designed to enhance the osseointegration and stability of dental implants in patients suffering from tooth loss. Developed by researcher Manar Ziad Foura-Matar and investigated in the DAG-RCT-2023 clinical trial (NCT07060859), the formulation utilizes three small molecule agents that synergistically promote bone healing and mineralization at the implant site. Dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, acts to promote the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) serves as an essential cofactor for collagen synthesis, supporting the formation of the extracellular matrix. Beta-sodium glycerophosphate provides a source of phosphate ions necessary for the formation of hydroxyapatite and the subsequent mineralization of the bone matrix. The combination is applied topically during dental implant surgery to improve early implant stability and long-term clinical outcomes.
