Dexamethasone + lifitegrast is a combination of two ophthalmic drugs used for their anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects in the treatment of ocular conditions. Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that acts as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant, commonly used to treat inflammation of the eyes caused by allergies or other irritative conditions[3]. Lifitegrast is a small molecule lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) antagonist that inhibits the interaction between LFA-1 on T cells and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), thereby blocking T-cell activation, recruitment, cytokine release, and reducing ocular surface inflammation associated with dry eye disease[2][4][5][6]. The combination may be considered for synergistic management of inflammatory eye diseases where both immune cell-mediated inflammation and general inflammatory processes are involved.
