Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dexamethasone + propranolol is a combination of two well-established pharmaceutical agents, each with distinct mechanisms of action. Dexamethasone is a potent synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressant properties, acting primarily through the glucocorticoid receptor to modulate gene expression and suppress inflammatory responses[8][4]. Propranolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta blocker) that reduces heart rate, myocardial contractility, and blood pressure by blocking beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors[5][6][2]. This combination has been studied for synergistic effects in certain conditions such as infantile hemangioma, where combined therapy may accelerate lesion regression compared to monotherapy[3]. Both drugs are approved individually for various indications but are not marketed as a fixed-dose combination product.
