Overview

This is a combination therapy consisting of dexamethasone (a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid), ranibizumab (a monoclonal antibody fragment targeting vascular endothelial growth factor A), and verteporfin (a photosensitizer used in photodynamic therapy). The combination is primarily investigated for the treatment of neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and choroidal neovascularization. Dexamethasone reduces ocular inflammation by suppressing immune responses; ranibizumab inhibits VEGF-A to prevent abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage; verteporfin, when activated by light during photodynamic therapy, produces reactive oxygen species that occlude abnormal blood vessels. Clinical studies have shown that this triple regimen can reduce the number of retreatment visits compared to anti-VEGF monotherapy while maintaining similar vision outcomes[1][2][4].
