Overview

This is a fixed combination ophthalmic drug containing three active ingredients: dexamethasone, tobramycin, and netilmicin. Dexamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties, commonly used in ophthalmology to reduce ocular inflammation. Tobramycin and netilmicin are both aminoglycoside antibiotics that inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria. The rationale for combining these agents is to provide robust anti-inflammatory action (from dexamethasone) while offering broad-spectrum antibacterial coverage (from two different aminoglycosides), including efficacy against strains resistant to one or the other antibiotic. This combination would be intended for topical ophthalmic use in conditions where both inflammation and risk of bacterial infection are present or suspected.
