Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dexamethasone is a synthetic glucocorticoid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. In the clinical study conducted by Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, it is administered in combination with Ringer's solution during temporomandibular joint (TMJ) arthrocentesis. This procedure involves the lavage of the joint space to remove inflammatory mediators and release the articular disc. The addition of dexamethasone aims to provide sustained anti-inflammatory action within the joint to improve clinical outcomes such as pain reduction and increased range of motion in patients with internal derangement of the TMJ.
