Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of dexamethasone palmitate (D-PAL/DXP), a liposomal formulation of dexamethasone, with ropivacaine, a local anesthetic. Dexamethasone palmitate is a pro-drug that incorporates dexamethasone into lipid microspheres, providing 5-6 times greater anti-inflammatory activity and fewer systemic side effects than free dexamethasone. When combined with ropivacaine, this formulation is being investigated for pre-incisional infiltration in various surgical procedures to reduce postoperative pain. The combination has shown promise in clinical trials for post-craniotomy pain, spine surgery pain, and thoracic herpes zoster-associated pain.
