This combination therapy consists of the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone sodium phosphate (0.1%) and a multi-component artificial tear solution containing sodium hyaluronate, polyethylene glycol, and propylene glycol. It was evaluated by Tanta University as a topical treatment for inflammatory punctal stenosis, typically administered following punctal dilatation. Dexamethasone acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby reducing the edema and fibrosis associated with punctal narrowing. The artificial tear components provide lubrication and stabilize the tear film, which is often compromised in patients with lacrimal drainage obstruction. This specific preservative-free formulation aims to minimize ocular surface toxicity while maintaining punctal patency.
