Overview

Dexchlorpheniramine + pseudoephedrine + guaifenesin is a fixed-dose combination medication used to relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies (such as hay fever), sinusitis, and other upper respiratory tract conditions. It contains three active ingredients: - Dexchlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors to reduce symptoms like sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. - Pseudoephedrine is a sympathomimetic decongestant that works by constricting blood vessels in the nasal passages to decrease swelling and congestion. - Guaifenesin is an expectorant that thins and loosens mucus in the airways to facilitate its removal through coughing. This combination targets multiple pathways involved in respiratory symptoms—histaminergic (allergy), adrenergic (congestion), and mucolytic/expectorant mechanisms—to provide broad symptomatic relief. It does not treat underlying infections or shorten illness duration[1][3][8].
