Overview

dexketoprofen + midazolam is a pharmacological combination consisting of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a short-acting benzodiazepine. Dexketoprofen, the S(+)-enantiomer of ketoprofen, acts as a potent analgesic by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, which are responsible for the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. Midazolam is a benzodiazepine that functions as a positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor, enhancing the inhibitory neurotransmission of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) to provide rapid-onset sedation, anxiolysis, and anterograde amnesia. This combination is frequently employed in procedural settings, such as peripheral arterial angioplasty, to manage patient discomfort and psychological distress. In a clinical study led by Kastamonu University, this combination is used as a standard-of-care intervention to evaluate the additive or comparative benefits of non-pharmacological distractions like virtual reality.
