Overview

Dexmedetomidine + levobupivacaine is a combination used primarily in regional anesthesia, especially for nerve blocks such as axillary or supraclavicular brachial plexus block. Dexmedetomidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist that provides sedative, anxiolytic, and analgesic effects without significant respiratory depression. Levobupivacaine is a long-acting amide local anesthetic that blocks sodium channels to inhibit nerve impulse transmission and provide local anesthesia. When combined, dexmedetomidine acts as an adjuvant to levobupivacaine, shortening the onset time of sensory and motor blockades while significantly prolonging their duration and extending postoperative analgesia.
