Overview

A combination therapy consisting of the ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine remimazolam and the alpha-2 adrenergic agonist dexmedetomidine. This combination is being investigated by Tongji Hospital for procedural sedation in pediatric patients undergoing fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Remimazolam acts as a positive allosteric modulator of GABAA receptors, providing rapid onset and offset of sedation, while dexmedetomidine provides complementary sedative and analgesic effects with minimal respiratory depression. The study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of this combination, potentially reducing the dosage requirements of each agent and improving the quality of sedation during diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopic procedures.
