dexrazoxane + cisplatin

A combination therapy consisting of dexrazoxane, a catalytic inhibitor of topoisomerase II and iron chelator, and cisplatin, a platinum-based DNA-alkylating agent. This specific regimen was investigated by the City of Hope Medical Center in a Phase I clinical trial (NCT00550901) for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. In this context, dexrazoxane was administered as a 96-hour continuous intravenous infusion to evaluate its potential as a chemotherapeutic enhancer and its pharmacokinetic profile when combined with cisplatin. While dexrazoxane is traditionally used as a cardioprotectant against anthracycline-induced toxicity, this study explored its direct antineoplastic potential in a combination setting.
