Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Zonasoft Plus is an ophthalmic lubricant combination containing dextran 70, glycerin, and hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose). It is formulated as eye drops to provide temporary relief from burning, irritation, and discomfort associated with dry eyes or exposure to wind and sun. Within the formulation, dextran 70 acts as a lubricant to form a protective coating over the ocular surface, glycerin serves as a demulcent and humectant to attract and retain moisture, and hypromellose increases tear viscosity to prolong contact time on the eye. Originally developed by Alcon (under brands like GenTeal Tears and Tears Naturale Forte) and marketed by various companies including Sapient Laboratories, this OTC-monographed combination helps restore tear film stability and maintain ocular surface hydration.
