Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bion Tears is a preservative-free lubricant eye drop solution developed by Alcon for the relief of dry eye symptoms. It utilizes the Duasorb water-soluble polymeric system, consisting of dextran 70 (0.1%) and hypromellose (0.3%), which mimics the action of natural tears to provide hydration and protection to the ocular surface. The formulation is specifically designed for patients with moderate to severe dry eye who may be sensitive to preservatives like benzalkonium chloride. In 2024, OcuMension Therapeutics acquired the commercialization rights for Bion Tears in China as part of a broader portfolio deal with Alcon.
