Overview
Dextroamphetamine + amphetamine is a combination of two central nervous system stimulants, used primarily to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. The drug consists of mixed amphetamine salts, typically in a ratio that provides both dextroamphetamine and levoamphetamine, with the former being more potent as a CNS stimulant. These agents increase synaptic concentrations of norepinephrine and dopamine by promoting their release from presynaptic neurons and inhibiting their reuptake. This action enhances attention, focus, wakefulness, and impulse control in patients with ADHD or narcolepsy. The combination is classified as a Schedule II controlled substance due to its potential for abuse and dependence[1][5][8].
