Overview

Walyte is a branded oral rehydration salts (ORS) formulation developed by Wallace Pharmaceuticals. It is a fixed-dose combination of anhydrous dextrose, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and sodium citrate, formulated in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. Walyte is indicated for the prevention and treatment of dehydration and electrolyte loss resulting from acute diarrhea, vomiting, excessive sweating, or strenuous physical activity. The combination works synergistically to restore fluid volume and electrolyte balance; dextrose facilitates the active cotransport of sodium and water across the intestinal mucosa via the sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1), while potassium chloride replenishes intracellular potassium, and sodium citrate acts as a buffering agent to correct metabolic acidosis.
