Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dextrose monohydrate + sodium lactate + calcium chloride + magnesium chloride + sodium chloride is a sterile **peritoneal dialysis solution** marketed as **DELFLEX** for **intraperitoneal** use in patients with chronic kidney failure and, in some public labeling and product references, acute renal failure. The solution is a multi-electrolyte, dextrose-containing dialysate in water for injection in which **dextrose acts as the primary osmotic agent**, creating an osmotic gradient across the **peritoneal membrane** to drive ultrafiltration and facilitate removal of excess fluid and metabolic waste during peritoneal dialysis. Sodium lactate serves as the alkalinizing buffer precursor, while sodium, calcium, and magnesium salts help maintain electrolyte composition. It is a **small molecule electrolyte solution** rather than a biologic, is supplied in multiple dextrose strengths and standard or low magnesium/low calcium presentations, and has been developed and marketed by **Fresenius Medical Care** for home and clinic-based peritoneal dialysis.
